Sound + Video Double Edition

I know, I know, we had no Sound + Video last week, and that's why we have one of the best films and actors that I've ever seen in action and one of the best songwriters of all time presented here today.

In this Special Edition I bring to you a very special film along with a very special song. The film is the The Hurricane. This is a 1999 biographical film directed by Norman Jewison and starring Denzel Washington in the leading role. The film tells the true story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter and his mate John Artis conviction. A boxer who spent almost 20 years behind bars before he managed to prove his innocence and get his conviction to set aside. A really inspiring film where the mental strength is pushed to the limit and the dream of being set free for it's own right comes to you in a brilliant part by Oscar Winner, Denzel Washington.

Much was said about the film background and it's facts, but that's not the point here. For those who did not see the film I recommend it. After that if you want to know more about all the film gossip, there's loads of internet material you can look around.

Now the song. By my favorite singer ever Bob Dylan, who opens his Desire album with the brilliant anthem to a man's life. Hurricane is the magnificent song that describe Rubin "Hurricane" Carter conviction. After meeting with Carter in prison and meeting a group of his supporters, Dylan began to write "Hurricane" in a "cinematic" style. This song was one of Dylan's few protest songs of the 1970's and was his fourth most successful single of the same decade, reaching #33 on the Billboard chart and #43 in the UK chart.

"That’s the story of the Hurricane,
But it won’t be over till they clear his name
And give him back the time he’s done.
Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world."
